This is that time of year when the skies are clouded over and we rarely see the sun. With sunrises coming late the skies are black when I leave for work. No stars, no light, nothing. Just void. The black is so intense it absorbs the tree tops and it is if they are being sucked in and obliterated. This morning was different.
When I left the house the sky was as expected, completely black. I made a stop to drop off some recycling for pick up and headed out to the road. It too was mighty dark. Dark until I turned onto the main road to work. The sky ahead was loaded with dark gray billowy mounds outlined in silver threads. Nothing dull about this. Brilliantly back lit heaps of granite hued cotton candy packed edge to edge between the trees and across the horizon. It was wondrous and gave me a sense of being called to the kingdom.
Approaching my final destination the clouds parted and I was blinded by a great shining silver orb in the sky. It was so bright I believe it burned a hole through the clouds to reveal itself. The pearly gates awaited.
I pulled into the parking lot as quick as possible and ran into the clinic to make preparations for my walk. I wanted to be outside to take in as much of this celestial gift as long time would allow. I grabbed the camera from my pocket and pointed it at the sky. No need to adjust exposure. The light was so intense I could see perfectly without the aid of my headlamp. This much much power would surely call the werewolves and vampires to life. The headless horseman was lurking in the nearby graveyard.
And so began my morning walk. Instead of being drowned in the predicted deluge I was bathed in the brilliant light of the hunter’s moon.
Keep on truckin'
